BERKELEY GAY LIBERATION FRONT, COCKETTES, ANGELS OF LIGHT, PERFORMER
During the gay liberation revolution, Tahara was active both in the streets and on the stage. As an early member of the Gay Liberation Front in Berkeley, California, Tahara was among the first generation of gay activists in the United States. The Cockettes represented the satirical cutting edge of gay liberation, while the Angels of Light emerged as their free-theater offshoot, bringing radical creativity and community to the movement.
